Our Music Director

...is an award-winning conductor based in London. From 2023–24, Emma was the Meaker Fellow at the Royal Academy of Music, where she curated a concert series for upper voice choir and led workshops for young female conductors.  

Alongside her role as Music Director of High Holborn Chamber Choir, Emma is the Founder and Artistic Director of Inchant, a collective of young professional singers working towards greater accessibility in choral music, and is regularly in demand as an Assistant and Deputy Conductor with ensembles across London and the surrounding area.

During her studies, Emma worked with choirs including the Academy Chamber Choir, the BBC Singers, and the National Youth Choir of Great Britain. She completed her Choral Conducting Master’s at the Academy with Distinction, studying under Patrick Russill and receiving scholarships from both the RAM and the Royal College of Organists. Upon graduation from the Royal Academy, Emma was awarded the Sir Thomas Armstrong Prize for Choral Leadership and the Alumni Prize for a ‘singularly distinguished musician’. Prior to this, she obtained a First Class Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Birmingham, where she majored in Choral Conducting.

Emma’s conducting is underpinned by her own experiences as a singer. While at the Academy, she studied singing with Alex Ashworth, and now freelances with professional church and chamber choirs in London. She has a keen interest in singing technique and vocal health, and wrote her undergraduate dissertation on the differing approaches to breathing technique in singing pedagogies since the 1500s. Emma also holds a Licentiate of the Royal Academy of Music (LRAM) diploma in Vocal Technique and Singing Teaching.
